Wireless surround sound?

This might be a really stupid question. I know there are wi-fi systems not really sure on the point of them. From what I gather they let you pull up youtube and such. I can do that on my computer so don't really need that.

What I wanna know is there any type of systems that don't have wires to connect the speakers. Seems kinda impossible but some of the things I've read sounds like that's the case.

There are wireless speakers out there. I've never been impressed with their quality though.

Sure, there are quite a few options for wireless surround sound speakers.

Some HTIB systems come with wireless speakers for the rear. Others can be added on. The term "wireless" is a bit of a misnomer, most of the systems involve a single receiver which has to be wired to both rear speakers, the speakers themselves don't usually have it built in. Even if they do, you still have to plug it in to a power outlet.

Quality can vary but it's never gonna sound as good as a wired connection.

After posting I found a couple that didn't have such great reviews. Seems they can have sync issues at times. I gotta decide what I want. Not sure if I should get one with a DVD player, or Blu Ray. I kinda like the ones that have a radio built in. I don't have a radio because my old one didn't like my computers and would never get a clear channel. I kinda don't see the point in a Blu ray one cause like I said in my tv thread I'd love to get a PS3. Not sure if that will happen though. Then again it would keep the wear and tear off the ps3 if I had an additional player.

Anybody know any places to get good systems for a good price? I've checked walmart, Best Buy, and Crutchfield so far

I have never had any real luck with wireless sound systems. I had one for about a year and ended up selling it because the receiver and speakers I had in my bedroom were better sound quality even though I had to string wires.

As with most things electronic-related, wired is usually simpler and more efficient. Unless you plan on constantly moving the system around, a wired setup will always be the best bet.

slightly off topic, but can sony/samsung/sanyo/phillips/whomever build a freaking 5 disc Blu Ray suround sound system already? It's always you can have this surround sound system with a 5 disc DVD setup or 1 Blu Ray disc capabilities. Everyone has 2 versions of multiple surround sound systems that just have different players but none of them have a 5 disc blu ray player. :(

For what?? you can only watch one blu ray at a time anyway

I would avoid all-in-one systems as much as possible, it's just more stuff to replace if something breaks. Get a separate receiver + speakers (or a simple HTIB system like the Onkyo HT-S3300) and combine it with whatever players you want.

Separate blu-ray players have gotten so inexpensive these days that if you're on the fence on buying a PS3, just go ahead and get a standalone player. Especially with a nice TV, blu-ray is just incredible.

Febreeze, stop being lazy and get up to change discs. :p

I have a wireless setup. It's crap. Now it's just a Stereo system since I don't use the rear wireless speakers. LOL. Oh well, still sounds good for stereo. 1200 watts too. It's a Samsung system 5 disc DVD system. I bought it on sale for about $300 a few years ago.

Flash I think that was one of the ones I was looking at. I was considering an lg to match the tv but not decided yet

Still looking into this. The reviews of the Onkyo's sound good all except for the HDMI issues. There is many complaints that the screen will go blank or flicker and you have to shut off the reciever and turn it back on. I'm not sure I like the idea of spending $400 on a system and have to stop in the middle of a movie to shut the damn thing off and turn it back on or lose my place in a game because the sound system decided to take a quick shit. Beings the PS3 is a 7.1 I am considering a 7.1 surround system now. Gotta use the full benefits ya know lol. If I get a Onkyo it will probably be the S5300
